Entering the “Triple Burden” Era

- Many people still suffer from acute infectious diseases such as TB, HIV, and influenza
- There is also an increase in patients with chronic conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, kidney disease, cancer, and mental illnesses.
Moreover, apart from Japan and a few other countries, Asia is entering a Triple Burden Era, where health is adversely affected by barriers to access due to widening of the poverty gap, inadequate or lack of health insurance as well as growing aging populations.
